David Nihill: Tangents Tour

After a sold out world tour comedian and author David Nihill is back with his brand new show, Taking Tangents which promises to do exactly that.

Leaving Dublin, Ireland where he was born and raised until the age of 22, David got drunk on travel and never quite hit sobriety of it. He has lived and worked in twelve countries and visited over eighty. His shows draw on his wide travels, cultural observations, attempts at language study, (occasional) international drinking session(s) and being a mildly confused immigrant.
David is the winner of the prestigious annual San Francisco Comedy Competition, (previous finalists include Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and Dana Carvey) and runner-up in the Moth’s largest US Grandslam storytelling competition. Also a bestselling writer, David recorded his debut special Documented for Dry Bar Comedy in 2019, his follow up Cultural Appreciation in 202, and his award winning show Shelf Help in 2025. He has been featured on TED.com, Sirius XM, Just For Laughs, Netflix is a Joke Festival, RTE’s Late Late Show, The Irish Independent, Inc, NPR, and the Huffington Post among others. A festival favorite, David's videos have also gone viral many times over with over 800 million views and a social following of over 2 million people. More info: davidnihill.com

Comedy Accelerator Workshop at Creek & The Cave

Free Weekly Comedy Development Workshop
Every Sunday • Doors at 3:00 • Workshop 3:30–5:00 PM

Free workshop dedicated to helping standups and comedy writers transition into full-on pros, develop new material, and get work beyond Austin.

Hosted at Creek and the Cave at 611 E. Seventh, 611 E. Seventh Austin, TX 78701.

Collaborative and friendly space, open to anyone, hosted by Dan French.

What Happens Each Week

  • 3:00 PM — Doors open
Ask specific questions about the comedy industry, get career advice.

  • 3:30–5:00 PM — Workshop
Each week features a rotating theme or skill: joke structure, late-night monologue jokes, roasts, brand writing, writing for other comics, punch-up practice, topical jokes, voice, delivery, and more.

  • We usually:

    • learn or discuss a writing technique or format

    • do guided writing exercises

    • get on stage to share material

    • give and receive supportive feedback and tags

It’s not a mic. It’s not a show.

It’s a development space — collaborative, fun, and fast-moving.

What You’ll Get Out of It

  • new jokes every week

  • stronger punchlines and structure

  • practice writing in different formats
clear insight into the business side of comedy

  • how to earn money writing jokes
    a consistent weekly writing routine

  • a supportive community of comedy-nerds

  • A working session to map your fastest path to paid work in comedy

  • Practical direction on what you do best and where it pays (standup, acting, writing, digital)

  • Comics, writers, storytellers, speakers who want real income, not just stage time

  • Talent with pieces in place but no clear plan to monetize

Who Teaches It

The workshop is led by Dan French — Emmy-nominated late-night comedy writer, standup comedian, speaker, and ex-professor. His career includes:

  • staff writer for The Late Late ShowDennis Miller, and The Best Damn Sports Show Period

  • writer for George Lopez, Wanda Sykes, and David Letterman

  • 3,000+ standup performances -- clubs, cruises, corporate, etc, etc
